Course Description:  This class will cover various literary genres such as novels, short stories, poetry, and nonfiction writings. We will focus on comprehension and vocabulary activities.

 

Grading Procedures:  Graded assignments will be assigned a point value. The points you earn will be divided by the total points possible to determine your grade.

A+    100                        B+   89-87             C+    79-77            D+   69-67            F    59 and lower

A      99-94                     B     86-84             C      76-74            D     66-64

A-    93-90                    B-    83-80             C-    73-70             D-    63-60

1.        Walk in and sit down.

2.       Be polite and respectful.

3.       Be on time and bring required materials:  paper, pen/pencil, homework, text book, student planner.

4.       All Student Handbook rules apply.  (drinks, cell phones, clothing issues, etc.)

1.        Late assignments will invite a lowered grade.

2.       Assignments must be neat and legible.

3.       Assignments must contain your name, date, class period, and assignment in the upper right-hand corner.

4.       No ragged edges on written assignments. Cut them off before class begins.

Cheating will not be tolerated. Plagiarism or cheating on tests, quizzes, daily assignments, and papers will result in an automatic zero. Your parents and the office will also be notified.

Course Description:  This class will cover the significant eras of American Literature and important pieces of writing from each period. We will study authors, writing styles, literary trends, and historical perspectives in literature. The focus in this class will be on content, themes, and comprehension.

Contemporary Literature

Course Description:  This class will cover various novels written since 1950.  We will engage in class discussions, special projects, and tests over materials read. Both class novels and individual selections will be read as part of the curriculum. We will also study such current literature as newspapers, magazines, and children's books.

Course Description:  During this class, students will learn and/or improve the proper techniques to be fluent public speakers. They will be required to create and present various types of speeches such as (but not limited to) introduction, persuasive, informative, demonstrative, sales pitch, eulogy, and improvisational.

Grading Procedures:  Graded assignments will be assigned a point value. The points you earn will be divided by the total points possible to determine your grade.

5.       During speeches, presentations, performances, etc. - no gum, no distractions to speaker, save questions and comments for end of performance.

Assignments:

1.        Late assignments will invite a lowered grade.  Speeches will be lowered one grade level for each day they are late. If you are absent the day your speech is due, you must give your speech the day you return.

2.       Assignments must be neat and legible.

3.       Assignments must contain your name, date, class period, and assignment in the upper right-hand corner.
